Four journalists from the Multimedia Group were named as finalists for the 2021 edition of the prestigious West Africa Media Excellence Awards (WAMECA 2021).

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) announced the list of finalists for the 2021 edition of the prestigious West Africa Media Excellence Awards (WAMECA 2021) on Wednesday.

Araba Koomson, Seth Kwame Boateng, Emmanuel Kwasi Debrah and the investigative journalist Kwetey Nartey from Joy News were among the five named Ghanaians.

The 5th edition is scheduled for Friday October 22nd at the Alisa Hotel, Accra, Ghana.

Media experts, high-ranking personalities, delegates from subregional bodies and civil society groups are expected on this occasion.

The event will welcome West Africa’s premier media defense attorney Femi Falana, SAN, as a guest of honor. The renowned human rights lawyer presents the award to the best journalist in West Africa.

711 entries from 14 countries in West Africa were submitted to the West Africa Media Excellence Awards 2021. After carefully examining the entries, the five-person jury shortlisted 21 finalists from five countries.

The winners of the various categories, including West African Journalist of the Year, will be announced at the awards ceremony.

All finalists receive a Certificate of Merit. The ultimate winners will receive plaques, certificates and cash prizes.

All 21 finalists will also be accepted as Fellows of the MFWA’s Journalism for Change Network and receive regular local and international training opportunities to improve their ability to influence positive change in society through journalism.

The West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA 2021) is supported by MTN-Ghana, the US Embassy in Ghana, the US William and Flora Hewlett Foundation; Open Society Institute for West Africa (OSIWA) and Stanbic Bank Ghana. The event is also supported by around 65 media partners across West Africa.
