4 years old, 5 others die in an accident in Kwahu-Atibie
Six people, including a four-year-old boy, have died after the vehicle they were traveling in was involved in an accident on Mount Odweanoma in Kwahu to the east on Tuesday evening.
The six were returning from a funeral they attended last week in Forifori, Afram Plains District, when the Hyundai truck, registration number GE 5638-19, had a braking error while descending from Atibie to Nkawkaw.
The car did a somersault several times.
The situation caused a standstill on the route, but the quick response of the Kwahu West Ghana National Fire Service, led by Kwakye Addo, Divisional Officer Grade 3, managed to tow the vehicle off the middle of the road.
Nkawkaw Police Traffic and Transportation Commander, MTTD, DSP Foster Asante, speaking with journalists, advised drivers, especially first-time users of the road unfamiliar with the terrain, to get help from others as they approach the terrain Riders to look for mountains.
“Preliminary investigations have shown that the driver’s brakes have failed. To prevent the vehicle from falling into the ditch, he tried to use the concrete wall. Unfortunately the vehicle did somersaults several times and we lost those lives ”.
“We advise riders unfamiliar with the mountain route that they should only ask the riders in Nkawkaw for help if they want to climb, or call the riders in Mpraeso to help them descend. You can use the obo route if you think the atibie route is very steep and if you do we can avoid these accidents. “
The deceased’s bodies were deposited in the morgue of Atibie Government Hospital.
This contributes to the numerous accidents that have already occurred this year and have claimed many lives while several others have been injured.
