7 Convicted of WASSCE misconduct

Seven people, consisting of three students, two teachers and two administrative officials, were convicted of impersonation by the Agona Swedru District Court at the West Africa Secondary School Final Exam (WASSCE) 2020.

One of them was sentenced to imprisonment and the others were fined.

Among them were Georgin Danso, Desmond Oduro and David Bawah, all students of the 2nd grade.

Others were Osman Ahmed, an administrator at Agona Swedru Central High School, and Clement Sarfo, also an employee of the same school, who were both fined 1,200 GH each, and Cedric Sefah Akyeampong, a teacher at Central High School who also fined GH ¢ 2,400.

Richard Nkrumah, aka Emperor, teacher at Ngleshie Amanfrom SHS, who is also the deputy headmaster of Central High School, was sentenced to six months in prison.

The convicts initially pleaded not guilty to charges of identity theft and aiding and abetting offenses, but were found guilty at the end of the trial and sentenced by the court on Wednesday, July 21, 2021.

Before the verdict was pronounced, the judge, Mr. Isaac Apeatu, said that what the convicts did was wrong and that their conviction served to deter others who might plan similar acts.

The facts of the case, as presented by Inspector Chare N. Salia, were that on Monday, August 17, 2020, the SHS students last year at WASSCE, a team of officials from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC ) under the direction of Mr. George., wrote Agyekum, the complainant, who visited the various SHS in Agona Swedru and its surroundings to check the conduct of the investigation.

He said Coffie Boakye Nana Yaw, Clement Sarfo, David Bawah, Georgin Danso and Desmond Oduro, who wrote the exam, gave their index numbers to inquiries.

However, a review of the verification machine revealed that Coffie Boakye Nana Yaw impersonates Hotor Savior, Clement Sarfo impersonates Tetteh-Courtnay Clinton Larry, Bawah David impersonates John Faati, Georgin Danso impersonates Odamatey Father Justice Nii Laryea, and Desmond Oduro impersonates Coffie Yaw .ye Nana had .

Admission of the offense

Inspector Salia said they had been arrested and during interrogation Ahmed, Sarfo, Bawah, Danso and Oduro said it was Richard Nkrumah and Cedric Sefah Akyeampong who hired them to act as Huntor rescuers, Tetteh-Courtnay Clinton Larry, John Faati, Odamatey Father Justice Nii Laryea, and Coffie Boakye Nana Yaw to write the WASSCE core courses for them.

He added that they had successfully written Integrated Science on August 3, 2020 and Social Studies on August 17, 2020. After writing Core Mathematics Paper Two, they were arrested while writing Core Mathematics Paper 1.

The prosecutor said that Nkrumah and Sefah Acheampong were arrested on August 20, 2020, and admitted the crime in their warning.
