It’s official: Barcelona have loaned 31-year-old Seville striker Luuk De Jong for a season that closed on Deadline Day, the club announced on Wednesday. Barça won’t pay a loan fee but they will take De Jong’s salary and there will be an option to buy the deal.
De Jong join Barça in what has turned into a crazy deadline day for the Catalan giants who tried to sign Edinson Cavani from Manchester United and João Félix from Atlético Madrid before they finally found a striker in the Dutch international.
Ronald Koeman has coached De Jong with the Netherlands and was in favor of the change deal from the start.
De Jong has scored 19 goals in 94 games in his two seasons with Sevilla and will take out insurance for Sergio Agüero, who has yet to make his debut for Barça due to a calf injury.
