Former assistant coach of FC Cologne, Ibrahim Tanko, will act as a scout for Ghana in upcoming games, including the upcoming AFCON tournament in 2021, according to soccer agent Yussif Chibsah.

Tanko, who served as assistant coach for Cameroon during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, is expected to oversee Ghana’s Group C opponents and provide reports to head coach Charles Akonnor as the West African powerhouse attempts to finalize its trophy design.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker was assistant coach of Ghana’s Black Stars during the reign of James Kwasi Appiah and has an in-depth knowledge of African football, having appeared nine times for the four-time AFCON winner.

A recognizable segment of the Ghanaian football population felt that Tanko was the right candidate to be the Black Stars head coach, but he will now take on the role of a scout for Akonnor ahead of the Games.

“In the coming games he will [Ibrahim Tanko] will help CK [Akonnor] with scouting, ”he told Bright Kankam Boadu on Peace FM.

Tanko led the Ghanaian U23 team, which finished fourth at the U23 AFCON 2019 in Egypt.
