Ghana Premier League 2021/22: Accra Lions fight 1: 1 against Sharks at the season opener
Ghana Premier League newcomers Accra Lions FC returned to a 1-1 draw against Elmina Sharks FC on Friday evening in the opening game of the 2021/22 season.
Lions scored 7 minutes after full-time to score their first point in the Premiership at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The German coach Andreas Rainer Kraft gave Rich Sackey and Abass Samari Salifu, who were substituted in the 24th minute after an injury, their debut starts.
In addition to Oliver Amedor, Frederick Asante and Abdul Fatawu Hamidu, top shooter Rauf Salifu also received a starting place.
The highly rated Frederick Akatuk came on as a substitute in the second half and made his first bow for the home side.
On the other hand, Nii Odartey Lamptey has called the newcomers Emmanuel Adjetey, Michelle Sarpong, Dominic Eshun, Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw and Enock Agblenyo into its starting XI.
Joseph Essam was preferred to the Sharks’ post, Lord Bawa Martey, while veteran midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei also took over.
The first half was very entertaining, but they failed to score as both teams failed to take advantage of the scoring opportunities presented to them.
Lions goalkeeper Appiah Kubi had to make two spectacular saves to keep the guests from taking the opening goal before the break.
Sharks made the breakthrough in the 64th minute through Sarpong.
The hosts equalized in the 82nd minute after Talisman Salifu scored the Lions’ first goal in the Ghanaian premier league.
Salifu scored 21 Division One League goals last season to help the Lions advance.
Sharks captain and center-back Ishmael Hammond was named Man of the Game after an outstanding performance.
