Accra Hearts of Oak have put their arch-rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko under indirect pressure after climbing to 53 points in the 2020 | 21 Ghana Premier League league table.
The Phobians defeated Medeama SC 2-0 on Sunday night at the Accra Sports Stadium. Two goals from Salifu Ibrahim and Benjamin Afutu in the second half were enough to secure all three points for the Phobians.
The win against Medeama from Tarkwa brings Hearts to 53 points with a difference of three points to the second-placed team Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
This has diverted some pressure on Kumasi Asante Kotoko as they would need a win at any cost to keep an eye on the League Cup. The two big clubs were both 50 points ahead of the league games this weekend.
Kotoko will face Temas Inter Allies in Accra on Monday evening. The Fabulous Boys have to win at all costs to win the League Cup.
A slip of Kotoko or Hearts in the remaining five games would go a long way in determining who wins the league.
In the meantime, the two teams have a game between them and this would add to the pressure and tension as it will be a determining factor for the league winner.
Hearts of Oak haven’t won it in nearly 12 years.
