Actress Kelly Preston died after a two-year fight against breast cancer, husband John Travolta said in an article on social media. She was 57 years old.
“With a heavy heart, I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year fight against breast cancer,” Travolta wrote in an article on Instagram on Sunday. “She fought bravely with the love and support of many.”
The actor congratulated the doctors and nurses at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and “the many friends and relatives of Preston who were by his side”.
“Kelly’s love and life will be remembered,” he added.
Preston was born under the name Kelly Kamalelehua Smith in Honolulu and received her first major film role in the teen comedy Mischief in 1985. She then appeared in 1980s hits like SpaceCamp (1986) and Twins (1988) before marrying Travolta in 1991.
Preston’s career also included notable film roles such as Jerry Maguire (1996) with Tom Cruise, From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) with George Clooney, Addicted to Love (1997) with Meg Ryan and For Love of the Game (1999) with Kevin Costner Your Last The role in the film was to play with her 28-year-old husband in the 2018 film Gotti.
Preston and Travolta had three children together. Her first child, Jett, died in 2009 at the age of 16.
Preston is survived by her husband, 20-year-old daughter Ella and 9-year-old son Benjamin.
