Ghanaian Afrobeats musician Leflyyy has switched genre and is ready to release his very first drill music entitled “Yaba”.
“Yaba”, which means “we have arrived” in the Twi language, shows the aspiring musician Toroo, who gave the album a new twist on the popular Kumerican trend.
The new single came from a studio session. It was just a freestyle session with Toroo, but the result blew Leflyyy and decided to share it with his loyal followers and fans.
“This is a freestyle that we did and it sounded so great” says Leflyyy, “That I decided to drop it, but I’m still sticking to what I started, which is Afrobeats.”
He won the title from the freestyle session. “Yaba means” we have arrived “in the Akan language and the title was inspired by the hook I got while freestyling.”
Why did he introduce Toroo, he said: “We were both in the studio when I got the beat and played it. We were both freestylers and I like what he did, so I decided to show him off. “
According to Leflyyy, switching from Afrobeats to Drill doesn’t mean he’s competing with Kumerican rappers, but rather he’s experimenting with different genres and testing the waters.
“No, I’m just kidding” he said when asked. “No competition with anyone. I’m on my track and experiment with different styles and genres of music. “
Fly Family Entertainment has announced that “Yaba” will be released on Friday, June 18, 2021.
