A 30-year-old taxi driver was found dead in Akyempim, Tarkwa-Nsuaem community, and his vehicle was taken away from the alleged criminals.
The deceased, who previously operated in and around Tarkwa, was identified as Ernest Essuman.
The inhuman act occurred in the late hours of May 23rd of this year.
The Tarkwa district police commander, who confirmed the incident to the Ghanaian news agency, said the police had received information from an informant about the incident around 10:30 p.m. and had been on site with some police officers.
Police chief superintendent Thomas Osei Ababio said when they reached a spot between the driver’s vehicle office and the Akyempim licensing authority along the Tarkwa-Takoradi highway, they found Essuman’s lifeless body in a pool of blood but were able to get the taxi not track down he was driving.
He said the owner of the vehicle came later to identify it as a Toyota Corolla with registration number GG 3189-19.
He said that Tarkwa police were investigating the incident and that the deceased’s body has since been deposited in the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital morgue for storage and autopsy.
Chief Superintendent Ababio advised drivers to be extra vigilant in the performance of their duties and urged the public to support one another in order to help the Ghanaian Police Service arrest criminals in society.
